前面我们介绍了离散曲面的曲率流理论，曲面上配备着欧氏度量带有奇异点。这次，我们介绍双曲离散曲面的曲率流理论。对于欧拉示性数为负的曲面，其单值化度量自然是双曲度量。双曲度量具有非常多的优点，因此在工程实践中起到了非常根本的作用。
例如双曲度量下，每个曲线同伦类中存在唯一的测地线，两条封闭曲线同伦当且仅当它们可以同伦变换成同一条测地线，因此可以将拓扑问题转化成几何问题。再如，如果源曲面和目标曲面同胚，目标具有双曲度量，那么调和映照存在并且唯一，并且调和映照为微分同胚。这在曲面配准问题中，具有重要作用。
计算曲面双曲度量的最为简单方法就是双曲离散曲面的曲率流方法。
