I have a mov file which is a raw captured file using Final Cut Pro. It is quite odd piece.

On Windows XP

1. Using Quicktime 7.5. The video quality is worse than on the mac (looks pixelated). Sound is OK.
2. No sound in VLC player.

3. Sound and video both work beautifully in Mplayer!!!! Yeah!!

On a Windows 2000 machine.

1. Using Quicktime 6.5.2 (you cannot install Quicktime 7.5 on Win2k), the video still looks horrible. The sound has echo effect now. !!

2. VLC player: No sound. The video is jumpy.

3. Using HYPlayer: Sound is good. Video is pixelated.

4. Elecard player: won’t play.

5. Realplayer: Sound has echo effect. Video is pixelated.

6. Divx Player: won’t play.

7. Abdio Free MOV Player 5.0: won’t play

8. Ace player: won’t play

9. Mplayer: error:

MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: filter_video.
MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.

I tried it on a dell WinXP machine and I got the same error. That’s weird.

After fiddling with the config file, I fixed the problem on the 2k machine (haven’t tried on the XP machine)

1. My video card is vo=directx. Another option was gl2, which didn’t work for me.
2. Uncommment the line: vf=eq,pp=lb/hb/vb
3. I changed the video driver on the Preferences window within MPlayer from directx to directx:noaccel. However, later I took that one back and it still worked. Anyways, just try it if the first two steps don’t work. — Actually, once I rebooted the computer, mplayer stopped showing video. I changed the setting back to directx:noaccel and it worked.

Now, MPlayer plays the file beautifully!!
