WEDCS (pronounced “wed-ex”), the Web Events Data Collection Service, is a system for collecting, computing, and consuming online events. WEDCS collects page information, referrers, client information, and custom tags for page views, link clicks, and custom events enabling teams to collect core web analytics data easily and extend data collection for online events as needed. . WEDCS is deployed across the Microsoft network to provide a holistic view of customer activity. It is the foundation for network wide analytics, reporting, as well as additional services such as segmentation, behavioral targeting, and personalization. Since WEDCS is a Microsoft IT built and managed collection tool, Microsoft controls the data and supports multiple downstream applications with a single tag.
