On the Protection of Cultural Heritage
In different time, the situation of cultural heritage protection is different. In the past century, the cultural heritage in our country was not only destroyed by injustice war, but also neglected by our government. In the process of Reform and Opening up, economic development was put in the first place, and many shops, hotels and stalls were built on historic sites. Even the tourism areas about cultural heritage is full of trade, commercial activities which is really unharmonious with the topic.
There's no doubt that cultural heritage protection is significant because if they are destroyed, they can’t be restored. Cultural heritage includes tangible culture (such as buildings, monuments, landscapes, books, works of art, and artifacts), intangible culture (such as folklore, traditions, language, and knowledge), and natural heritage (including culturally-significant landscapes, and biodiversity). A majority of cultural heritage gives us a way to learn about history, and this activity may in turn give us solutions for today’s social problems that can’t be solved properly. Cultural heritage can provided us a lot of raw material to research on the human beings’ development, economic activities’ change, social rules and so on. Then we can use these information to instruct human’s practices, so as to eliminate unnecessary activities to save resources and energy. What’s more, cultural heritage can be exploited to be a resort to boom local economy.
Through the analysis of present situation and the values of cultural heritage, we can conclude that it is the time for us to protect cultural heritage. From my perspective, our government must be aware of the importance of and take efficient measures to protect cultural heritage. We shouldn’t sacrifice history and culture to obtain short interest. We can exploit their business potential so that they can pay for the protection by themselves. Besides, having the hi-tech is also essential to protect the cultural heritage.
