奈尔·罗杰斯凭着他在大卫·鲍伊的专辑"Let's Dance"中的出色表现，被麦当娜选为唱片的制作人。麦当娜继续沿用了首张专辑创造的舞曲和流行风格。她在专辑上写上了“献给全世界的处女”。
与专辑同名的歌曲Like a Virgin是她的第一首热门歌曲。麦当娜在第一届MTV VMA颁奖典礼上演唱了这首歌。表演中，麦当娜穿着白色婚纱在地上翻滚，露出了身上的衬裤和吊袜带，她还扎着标志性的着"Boy Toy"的腰带。虽然后来麦当娜亲口证实当时的露底纯属意外，但这次的表演依然经典。专辑中第二首单曲"Material Girl", 为麦当娜从媒体上获得了“物质女郎”的称号。1985年，"Into the Groove"成为麦当娜主演的电影《寻找苏珊》的主题曲，歌曲立即成为了各个国家的冠军单曲，这也是她在英国重新灌录的专辑中产生的第一支冠军单曲。
